Let's Be Pop Stars!

🍝

'Let’s Be Pop Stars' is an original play written by IRL roommates Skarlett Redd & Ann Valdés. It is a comedic story about two roommates in search of a new apartment, who find pop stardom instead. The women yearn to be seen as artists but, when given the opportunity, are pressured to compromise their values, their image, and ultimately their friendship.

Set in their hometown of Los Angeles, California, 'Let's Be Pop Stars' is written by two women who grew up with Hannah Montana, became adults watching Broad City, and are now going, "Why is everything gray?"

About the Team:

Skarlett and Annie are legacy roommates born and raised in East Los Angeles. Between Skarlett's BFA in Theater and Annie's "Class Clown" superlative, they felt qualified to embark upon a journey towards pop stardom in the hopes of maybe, actually, being able to buy a house in their hometown one day.

Skarlett Redd is an actress and comedian who's starred in short films that have screened at SXSW, Fantasia, Palm Spring International Film Festival, and LALIFF. Her television credits include Netflix and CBS, both on-camera and in animation. And actually, we lied, Skarlett is not from East LA, but actually Artesia, which is still LA County.

Ann Valdés has produced television for TLC, Meta, Discovery, History Channel, and has received two LA Emmy nominations for her work at PBS. She was a 2025 fellow of the National Hispanic Media Coalition's Series Scriptwriter Fellowship and is currently working as writers' support staff on an Amazon/MGM Originals show. Annie was, in fact, born in Hollywood.

Produced by SGV-raised Zoe "Mala" Muñoz, who is co-host of the iHeartRadio podcast 'Locatora Radio' and The Gotham honor-receiving podcast, 'Marijuanera: A Podcast for Potheads.' With a background in stand-up comedy, Zoe is pursuing an MFA in Film & Television Production at the University of California's School of Cinematic Arts.
