Sounds Like A Cult is coming to The Elysian for a special intimate live podcast recording with Amanda Montell and Iman Hariri-Kia!

Join Amanda and Iman as they put one particularly seductive corner of pop culture under the cult microscope, with special guests, questionable obsessions, niche lore, and the kind of culty analysis you know and love.

The night will also celebrate Iman’s new novel, Once in a Timeline, with ticket-and-book bundles available, specialty cocktails, and a post-show book signing. Come for the live show, stay for the culty chaos.

ABOUT SLAC:

Putting the “cult” in culture… Do you think SoulCycle is a cult? What about the Royal Family? Disney Adults? Sounds Like A Cult is the hit podcast that analyzes a different fanatical group each week to answer one deliciously complicated question: This sounds like a cult, but is it really?

Amanda Montell is a linguist and New York Times bestselling author of Cultish: The Language of Fanaticism, The Age of Magical Overthinking, and Wordslut. Her work explores language, belief, cognitive bias, and the delightfully strange ways humans make meaning out of the world around them.

Iman Hariri-Kia is an author, journalist, and cultural critic whose work explores identity, relationships, ambition, and pop culture. She is the author of A Hundred Other Girls and the forthcoming novel Once in a Timeline, which she’ll be celebrating on tour this fall.

Since premiering in 2021, Sounds Like A Cult has been downloaded more than 40 million times and amassed a devoted following of its own. The podcast won the 2026 Webby People’s Voice Award for Best Arts & Culture Podcast, the 2023 iHeartRadio Award for Best Emerging Podcast, and three 2025 Signal Awards, and has been praised by The New York Times, Marie Claire, and more.

Equal parts comedy, cultural criticism, and culty chaos, Sounds Like A Cult takes the things we’re all a little too obsessed with and asks what our devotion says about us.
