The Shop at the Elysian is pleased as punch to present its very first art show! It seems appropriate to do a show of the work of Robert Dayton who hosts The Birthday Experience which happens monthly in the Elysian Vault next door (and will be happening after the art opening too). His work is also appropriate (though some may say it deals with subject matter that may be deemed 'inappropriate') as his original work for the show features playful pen-and-ink and colorfully painted works on paper that he has loosely deemed 'erotic art' -there's even a clown or two ambiguously shifting into bodily organs. Besides original works, there are multiples with brand new "I had all the orgams" t-shirts and "new baby" greeting cards, along with copies of his "Cold Glitter: The Untold Story Of Canadian Glam" and "The Empty Bed" books, and more!
ARTIST BIO:
Robert Dayton is an multi-disciplinary artist, writer, and performer. Comedy? Yes. His visual art and writings have appeared in numerous places, etc. Robert's latest book “Cold Glitter: The Untold Story Of Canadian Glam” is published by Feral House. His previous books include "The Empty Bed", a pen-and-ink humour book about heartbreak published by Impulse[b] and "The Canadian Romantic by The Canadian Romantic" published by Pitt Projects/Publication Studios. As The Canadian Romantic, he manifests as a series of videos, live performances, and more to make people in Canada and elsewhere feel more attractive since 2010. More recently, he has been putting on The Birthday Experience event at The Elysian Vault with some very talented people. “It’s Your Birthday Whether It’s Your Birthday Or Not.” He hosts Uh Oh Canadia, a Canadian screening series at Whammy Analog and once starred in a Canadian movie called "Male Fantasy." His collaborative musical performance and recording projects include Robert Dayton & the Beach Boys, song-and-dance duo Canned Hamm, July Fourth Toilet, Points Gray, and Hallmark -and solo too. Robert has performed across North America and Australia.
Robert holds an MFA from the University of Waterloo, a BFA from Emily Carr Institute, and was born in Fort St. John, British Columbia.
