Have you ever wanted to be FINE?? Then take this class!!
Being Fine 101: The Fundamentals of Crashing Out is a whirlwind lecture blending stand-up, multimedia, audience participation, and clown to explore trauma, mortality, and personal reinvention. Using real-life case studies, Professor McCourt presents an absurdly academic take on what it means to “be fine.”
As “students,” audience members can expect quizzes, assignments, and personal reflection as the Professor (and his class) confront their own disasters. Just don’t ask too many questions... the Professor’s still figuring some things out himself.
Ian McCourt is a writer and comedian from Massachusetts. He was voted "Most Theatrical" in High School, spoke at his graduation, and got a 790 on the writing section of the SATs, because that matters. He received his B.S. in Television/Radio/Film with a minor in Theater from Syracuse University, where he tried out to be the University's Mascot "Otto the Orange." He did not get it. Ian joined The Elysian Theater's staff in 2024 and has been the Academic Operations Manager for Syracuse University's VPA LA Program since March of 2025. He's considering taking the SATs again, just to feel something.
