What does it mean to be a Consent-Forward performer? What does it mean to be sensitive enough that you always choose the best volunteer? What does it mean to have an interactive show that doesn’t make your audience cringe in disgust, but laugh in delight? These are the questions that we’ll be exploring in this 2 day Intensive Clown Workshop.
In this course, using Dr. Betty Martin’s Wheel of Consent, we will play games to increase our sensitivity on how we individually connect with our audience, our collaborators, and ourselves. Through these games, we will discuss and explore consent in clowning, pushing boundaries, recognizing the flop, being in the flop, and building the resilience to effectively move on. The overall goal of this workshop is to see how far we can make each other laugh within this “uncomfortableness” of a heavy topic, like consent, all the while having the best times of our lives. Consent creates the rules and boundaries and once those have been established, then, we can play.

About the Instructor:
Dr. Dashia Magee, “The Intellectual Clown”, is not afraid of asking questions and mingling in the uncomfortability of conflict, in order to elevate clowning into a more inclusive art form. She believes clowning is for everyone, and not just some. All can have access to the joy of laughter, through clowning.
Dashia is an LA-based Clown and Buffon that understands how to get the audience eating out her hands. She has studied with Spymonkey, Dr. Brown, Jett Everlegih, Daniel Passer, John Gilkey, and Avner the Eccentric. She has also co-taught clown courses with Aitor Basauri (from Spymonkey) in Vienna and London and runs her own workshops, dealing with inclusivity in Clowning.
