Learn the fundamentals of modern clown and underground comedy that define the Elysian! This session: kids ages 8-11
Following the tenets: BE, TRY, MAKE, PLAY, this six-week workshop will help kids take the stage with confidence and learn to channel their natural instincts to showcase the bravest, silliest, funniest parts of themselves. Taught by Elysian teaching artists who actively create and perform at the theater, the class invites kids on a quest to find What Is Funny, and celebrates curiosity, collaboration, and unabashed glee. Through ensemble games and weekly guided lessons, students will explore physical comedy, improvisation, and theater devising skills in a supportive and fun environment. A chance to unleash their imagination, activate their bodies, experiment with ideas, and build confidence and connection with others.

About the Instructor
Natasha Mercado is a theatre artist, Clown, director, and educator who has taught young people in public schools, bilingual classrooms, community arts organizations, and professional training programs across Los Angeles. Natasha believes every young person has a unique creative voice, and she creates playful, collaborative classrooms where students are encouraged to be expressive, stay curious, and be brave enough to trust their artistic impulses. As the creator of Soft Clown, an original performance philosophy rooted in curiosity, vulnerability, and emotional depth, Natasha brings an embodied approach to theatre education. She has also trained with the Arts for Justice + Healing Network in arts-based, trauma-informed practices. Outside the classroom, her award-winning work has toured internationally and been featured in the Los Angeles Times, New York Magazine, and The List UK.
