Balinese mask Intensive (1-week Intensive)

There's a thing that happens in performance — you've felt it — when someone walks into the space and the atmosphere in the room changes. Not because of what they're doing. Because of what they are.

In Bali, they call it taksu. It's the animating force. The ineffable electricity. The thing that makes an audience lean forward without knowing why.

You already have it. You just don’t recognise it. Yet.

Over five days, internationally acclaimed actor trainer Dr. Budi Miller — UNESCO-designated master teacher of Balinese mask performance, Lead Teacher of Fitzmaurice Voicework®, and visiting faculty at David Geffen School of Drama at Yale and The Juilliard School— brings 30 years of research into one of the most unusual and transformative training experiences available anywhere in the world. Drawing from Balinese performing arts, breath and nervous system work, mask, and ancient non-Western performance traditions, we go Deep.

Day by day, we strip back everything that's getting in the way of your most powerful, magnetizing, ridiculous, and alive performing self. You'll work with breath, body, space, and something harder to name. You'll discover how the ancient portal of masks unlock physical presence you didn't know you had. You'll learn why your nervous system is the instrument and how to play it. By the end of the week, you won't perform the same way again.

This is five days of finding out what you actually are — and what happens when you stop hiding it.

Expect to sweat. Expect to be surprised. Expect to leave with something you can't quite explain to people who weren't there.

25 hours over 5 days. Open to all performing artists. Clowns, comedians, improvisers, actors, and devisers especially welcome. No prior experience required — just a willingness to go somewhere new.
